About The Artist

Jay Callahan is a long-time resident of Edisto Island. He studied music and art at Youngstown State University, followed by 20 years of performing as bass guitarist and vocalist with a variety of bands and musical reviews. At age 40 he began a career as a systems analyst for the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Now retired, he has returned to his first love, the arts.

Jay’s favorite mediums are color pencil, graphite and watercolor. His desire is to produce affordable originals and prints that will whet the appetite of others for collecting and investing in pieces of fine art.

Jay also enjoys blurring the lines between photography and painting with his innovative and creative grisaille mixed medium pieces that combine printed grayscale underpaintings of his original photographs with color pencil layered on top to create beautiful and unique pieces of art.
